20/03/2002 (interview with  Flipper)

Please give a brief history of the band, including current line up.

We formed at the end of October 200. After a couple of gigs our drummer, Pug left. He was replaced by Stv, so the line up is now...

Stv - Drums, who's been in loads of bands over the years.
Mark - Guitar, who was in Concrete Sox for 8 years, plus a stint in the Varukers
Flipper - Guitar, ex-Fatal Dose, POA and Vilechrist (which was a solo project)
Rich - Bass, ex Concrete Sox
Shaun - Vocals, this is the first ever band Shaun's ever been in

We've done a handfull of gigs, mainly ruond the midlands, with the likes of Chaos UK, Icons Of Filth, GBH, SOTB (nice bit of name dropping there) plus loads more, which have all gone really well.

Just one, five track CD up to now, which is totally self financed and released by ourselves. If we can do it, anybody can.

If you were writting a review about Poundaflesh, how would you describe the band?

Suave, sophisticated, chiseled good looks, carved from the finest granite. Musically talented beyond belief? If you believe any of that bollox, you'll believe anything. Don't know really - come and see us and make up your own mind.

Do you do any covers in your live set, if so what?

Not yet, but we're gonna be giving 'Dead Cities' the Poundaflesh treatment soon. We're also thinking of doing Poison Idea, Discharge and Moterhead Covers, but we'll be keping it to one cover per gig.

If you could see any band play live, either of the past of present who would it be?

Mark - Sex Pistols and Discharge, together, both in their hay day
Flipper - Carpenters and Los Microwaves ???
Stv - Sex Pistols, Ruts, Bad Brains and Black Flag
Rich - Dead Kennedys in their prime
Shaun - early Ramones at CBGBs

What is the Punk/Oi scene like in your area?

The only place for punk/oi gigs in Derby is the Victoria Inn which has played hosst to loads of bands over the past few years. As for punks 'n' skins in Derby, there's hardly any. Gigs are mostly attened by people from outta town. There seems to be a pretty big skater-ska/punk scene in Derby, but we're not really interested in that side of things, so we know fuck all about it. We're the only punk band in Derby as far as we are concerned at the moment.

What is the best sentence you have ever hear that someone has managed to get into a songs lyrics?

Mark - 450 million animals are murdered in Britain every year to be shoveed down your throat and shat out your arse - ENT: Murder

Stu - If the kids are united, they will never be divided - Sham 69: United

Shaun - I Make Love to moutain Lion's, sleep in red hod brandings irons - Moterhead: I'm So Bad (Baby I Don't Care)

Flipper - I am an earthworm, I live underground, and no one sees me ? - Flipper (the band)

Rich - I lick my brain in silence, rather squeeze my head ind insted - Ween: Mutilated Lips

What bands would you recommend checking out?

Swellybellys - definatly one of the best bands about for ages.

Plans, gigs and releases planned for 2002.

Lots of gigging around Britain and Europe. A trip to America is in the pipeline, so hopefully we will get over there this year. We'll be going into the studio soon, so we should be releaseing some new material in a few months' (labels get in touch).

Any final comments?

Cheers for the interview. Keep up the good work at Punk & Oi. Cheers to everbody who's shown an interest in us and the band's who've lent us gear etc. Anyone organising gigs etc, get in touch.

Oh yeah, we've got CDs and shirts for sale. CDs £3.50 and shirts £6.50 (both postpaid). Distro's and labels drop us a line if you're interested.
