Interview

Pistol Grip
24/09/2002 (interview with Stax)

Please give a brief history of the band, including current line up.

Hollywood, Chase, and I started the band in 1997 while we were in high school. We pretty much sucked for a while and went through a couple bass players and a drummer before we signed to BYO. Since then Chase has left the band and we have our FINAL lineup.

Boxcar plays drums Hollywood and Chris play guitar, Slowey is on bass, and I belch out the vocals.

Discography.

Well it's a long list: Shots From the Kalico Rose

Has any band member played in other bands, if so what?

No other bands really. Hollywood, Slowey and I had a crappy garage band before we started Pistol Grip but nothing anymore, this is hard enough.

Describe your sound and what arethe main theme of the lyrics?

We get this question a lot and I never know really what to say. People say so many different things but I guess you can hear some 77 style punk, and oi. There is no real theme in all of the songs just basically life experiences and opinions.

What is the funniest thing that has happened to you whilst touring?

On our last tour we were staying at some girls house in colorado. After a long night of drinking we
all went to sleep out in the living room. Chris woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of liquid hitting the floor. He finds Boxcar sleepwalking standing in the corner of the room pissing on the wall. Chris had to walk him to the bathroom and we never told the girls about it. I always wondered if they found out. Maybe that's why we weren't invited back. This is the only story I could tell you without someone getting in trouble.

If you could see any band play live, either of the past or present who would it be?

The Clash, The Clash, and The Clash.

Name the best 5 releases of the last 12 months?

I don't know I haven't really bought anything for a while.

What is the Punk/Oi scene like in your area?

The scene is generally good in southern california. It's pretty big and you can always catch
great bands that come through here.

Plans, gigs and releases planned for 2002.

Well we'll be in Europe in about a week and then we hit the studio to record our second album. Hopefully it'll come out in the spring of 2003.

Any final comments?

Nothing really. Thanx. Stax
