The Pints

Please give a brief history of the band, including current line up.

Spike: Well, we started sometime in -96, but the lineup wasnīt the best so the first chnge was we got a new singer after about half an hour. After that the linup changed a lot through the years, but Iīve always been on bass and Steve on vocals. We recorded a 12 track demo that really brings out a good laugh today, but in late -97 we got into studio for the first time and recorded the "Raised with Violence" 7" ep (Alcoholic Records). Then we switched drummer. Nothing much really happened after that until april -98 when we recorded 14 track Lp, but it turned out to bad to be released. After that we changed the linup again, with a new drummer and guitarist, and that became the linup we are having ever since. That is with Steve on vocals, Spike on bass, Kimmo on guitar and Micke on drums. We changed the sound quite a lot and it became more streetpunk-like. In November -98 we then recorded our "Wake up Screaming" 12" ep and got signed on Helen of Oi! (their first and only 12" ep), After that everything has been slow, only rehersaling new songs and playing a few gig. And so finally, September -99, we just recorded a 14 track Lp which so far is unsigned (we are looking for a good company, so if you have one - get in touch). Thatīs it...

Spike: Raised with Violence - ep (-97, Alcoholic Records)
Wake up Screaming - ep (-98, Helen of Oi!)
Shadows of the Past - Lp (-99, Unsigned)

Describe your sound.

Spike: Well, we have different sounds on every record, due to weīve learned to play our instruments, but today, I would say its a bit like The Varukers, mixed with Explioted, only worse (we canīt really compare to them).

Why did you decide to sing in English rather than Swedish and what are the drawbacks?

Spike: Acctually, both me and Steve (we write most the lyrics) thinks itīs much easier to to write in english. I mean to get it serious.

If you could see any band play live, either of the past or present who would it be?

Spike: I can only speak for myself, but I think it would be early days of Cock Sparrer and Discharge.

What is the Punk/Oi scene like in Sweeden?

Spike: Itīs not very big, but when there are big things going on, people show up. We played at Smash the Discos in Stockholm, and there came about 250 people., and when English or American bands come over (famous ones) there can be 400-500 people. I think the sceneīs alright.

What is the best gig The Pints have ever done and who else was on the line-up?

It was at Smash the Discos -99 in Stockholm. It was us, Guttersnipe, Chinese Takeaway, and Dims Rebellion.

What is the favourite song (and what band is it by) of each member of the band?

Spike: The Varukers - March of the S A S
Steve: Discharege - Decontrol
Kimmo: Discharge - Never again
Micke: Exploited - Beat the Bastards

Plans, gigs and releases planned for 99.

Well -99 is soon finished and we have no dates set for gigs yet, but we have two or three planned.

Any final comments?

Well, just that you should look out for our Lp "Shadows of the Past" when it comes out. Keep your heads high and punk will never die! (yeah, I know, it was a bad one)
