Interview

Guv'nors
13/12/2003

Please give a brief history of the band, including current line up.

We all knew eachother from the different bands on the alternative scene in Aarhus. Back when we started Søren, Jonas and Mikkel played in local ska band Skaloot, but was all longing to play some rock'n'roll again. They hooked up with Mads, and then later on Jay.

Discography.

"skint and mortgaged" -4-track cd d.i.y. on smart'n'hard prod. (sold out!)

"highroller" 14 track album out on lucky seven music. (Cat.-No.: L7-012)

Your debut album 'Highroller' is now out. How would you describe the album musically and what inspired the lyrics?

The album is the result of five different guys, with more or less five different approaches to rock'n'roll, getting together in a cloud of beer sweat and smoke. It contains element of such different genres as streetpunk, glam, HC, Oi, and maybe even metal.... Call it whatever you'd like, we prefer to call it rock'n'roll!

The lyrics are inspired from loads of stuff; headlines, tv, girls, beer, footie & great writers as- elvis costello, buster bloodvessel, judge dread, mick fitz & noddy holder.

You have a couple of covers on the album - are these favourite tracks of yours and what else would you consider covering and what makes a good cover?

The originals are great tracks and amongst our all time favs. I think the idea of covering another band is to pay tribute to what they've done previously. There are two ways to to a cover. Either you cover a band close to our own genre and try to do i respectfully. Which is what I think we've done. Or you take a completley different track and interpret it you way. We've played many different covers, especially when we didn't have that much of our own material, ranging from Guns'n'Roses to Walkers (old danish glamrock band), and there's a fair chance that we'll put a cover song or two on our next album.

As most of the band are in other bands, is this just a hobby? And how did you get together in the fist place?

It started out as a hobby, which we now are taking more seriously. But the main motive behind the band is and will always be; having fun.

If you could take a vocalist, guitarist(s), bassist and drummer from different bands to make your perfect band who would you choose (can be deceased)?

we couldn't quite agree here... here's what we came up with;
noddy or phil lynnott on vocals, parsons(sham) , steve(business), malcolm young(ac/dc) or Ruyter Suys(nashville pussy) on guitars, arthur kay or phil lynnott on bass & john bonham or phil animal tayler on drums.

-we'd manage them & make a bundle

What are your favourite releases of the past 12 months?

Backyard Babies "Stockholm syndrome" The Cardigans "Long gone before daylight"
The Donnas "Spend the night"
The Business."hardcore hooligan"
+ the latest Johnny Cash

What is the Punk/Oi scene like in your area?

Small, but alive and kickin'!

Actually the underground music scene is amazing here in aarhus(denmark)...to name a few, we've got the ZERO POINT(punk), OUTFIT(oi!), BARCODE(hardcore), HATESPHERE(metal), DEFECTORS(garage) & the GUV'NORS what else do you really need?

Plans, gigs and releases planned for 2003/04.

Gigs in europe in Winter-Spring Write and record new album Summer-autumn

Any final comments?

not really...other than...we wanna play in England!!!
