The Business
11/03/01 (interview with Steve Whale)

Please give a brief history of the band, including current line up.

The Business started in 1980. Along with the likes of Exploited, Cockney Rejects, Angelic Upstarts, Blitz and GBH, The Business were part of the second wave of punk. This new uncomprosing style that came straight from the street, seemed to catch people's imagination.

The band split for several years, but then reformed in 1995 when they did a tribute for the football player 'Bobby Moore' who had died of cancer. Since then the band have been going strong.

The new album 'No Mercy' will be released in early May in Europe on Burning Heart Records and on Epitaph in the States on May 22nd.

Current lineup is.....
Micky Fitz - vocals
Steve Whale - guitar
Lol Proctor - bass
Micky Fairbain - drums

What is the funniest thing that has happened to you whilst touring?

Micky Fitz buying a round.

Would the Business allow one of their songs appear in a commercial? If yes, what would you like it to be advertising?

Yes!!! There is a song on the new abum, which is called "Guiness Boy" - use your imagination for what that could be used to advertise.

If you were writing a review about The Business, how would you describe the band?

Micky F has a big nose
Steve is a phscopath
Micky (drumer) is the Nick Cotton (Eastenders) of the band
Lol could pass for a hairdresser

Do all the band members do other jobs as well as being in the band? If so, what?

Yes. Micky Fitz is a sparky (electricion), Micky the drummer owns a greasy spoon (cafe), Lol is a hairdresser (sic), and Steve appears in Easteners.

What is the favourite song (and what band is it by) of each member of the band?

Micky F: Kyle & Jason - Espcially For You
Steve: Sex Pistols - Anarchy In The UK
Micky (drummer): Here'Say (Popstars) - Pure & Simple
Lol: ? - Shut Up Your Face

Do you think street music will rise again?

Street music is already on the rise. There seems to be a lot of 16 year olds getting into punk.

Plans, gigs and releases planned for 2001.

'No Mercy' is the name of the Business new album and it is back to the original Business sound, for Business fans. The album will be released in early May in Europe on Burning Heart Records and on Epitaph in the States on May 22nd. 2 of the tracks from the album 'Hell To Pay' and 'Take Us and Use Us', plus 'The Whole Truth...' will be used in an up and coming British Gangster film. Steve chases after 2 naked men in London (part in the film). The film will premier in Cannes and the band are likely to make a video to go with the 'Hell To Pay track'. Other songs from the 16 track album include 'Code Red' about a mate who tried to help fellow inmates escape from prison by helicopter, 'Bellmarsh Prison' about prisoners not having the right to complain.

A new offical Business website done by "Rebecca" will be up and running soon.

Any final comments?

The album notes will include comments from Steve Goodman on prison injustice, plus internet sites to check out on the unfair prison system.
